Kelly Johnson Hi, everybody! Saunders County Online is out and about in Wahoo today. And I have Sue with me today. And we're talking about something that is, we always look forward to these things every year. And it is kicking off tonight.

Sue DuBois Correct.

Kelly Johnson Can you tell us a little bit about what that will be?

Sue DuBois Well, tonight is our first farmers market of the season. In Wahoo, it's at 7th and Beech. We tried to do it every year. We've been hosting it for about five years now at the Methodist Church, and we're excited to get going again.

Kelly Johnson And so it is local farmers.

Sue DuBois Correct.

Kelly Johnson And what is coming out at this point in time, I was supposed like, asparagus and things like that.

Sue DuBois You know, it's always exciting to see what's there.

Kelly Johnson Right.

Sue DuBois Our local farmers will have whatever's available. Asparagus, radishes, maybe some lettuce or kale. Yeah, that kind of fun stuff.

Kelly Johnson So how many farmers or vendors usually come to this?

Sue DuBois You know, it's different every week, we usually have at least four or five, we've had as many as 12. So everything from local produce to eggs, farm eggs, baked goods, local vendors that have goat milk soap, candles, and just a whole variety of really great things.

Kelly Johnson And you do this actually twice a week?

Sue DuBois We do. We do Thursday afternoons from 5:00 to 6:30 and Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30.

Kelly Johnson So an hour and a half each time. And is it weather dependent? Or no matter what rain or shine?

Sue DuBois You know, it really does kind of depend if it's a big storm, nobody's going to be there. But yeah, it's it's sprinkling. Usually the vendor still set up.

Kelly Johnson So again, so it's kicking off tonight at five o'clock.

Sue DuBois 7th & Beech parking lot of the Wahoo Methodist Church.

Kelly Johnson So they look for that. And again, you guys are getting prepared for this. Everybody's been working really hard. And what a great opportunity, with gas prices and stuff like that. Why have to go to stores and stuff like that when you can actually find those things right here.

Sue DuBois Absolutely. And just to let you know, anybody is welcome to be a vendor and our farmers market. You don't have to call ahead of time, just show up. It's $5 a week. So if you're there Thursday and Saturday, it's still only $5. You just pay one fee.

Kelly Johnson $2.50 a piece.

Sue DuBois Yeah, exactly. You know, if you're only there Thursday, or if you're only there Saturday, or if you're there both $5.

Kelly Johnson And then and then and then pretty much anything that is fine.

Sue DuBois Yeah, bring anything. We follow the guidelines for the Nebraska Health Department farmers market. So if you Google that, they have a whole list of what you have to do, as far as you know, meeting the health guidelines. Pretty straightforward.

Kelly Johnson I'll see what I can do about linking that out so everybody can be a part of that. And again, it could help out if you wanted to make a little extra money on the side. But also, it's a variety of individuals, a variety of things being grown throughout the season starts today. And goes when you kind of wrap this up at the end of the year?

Sue DuBois We go through September and then depending upon the weather, if our vendors still have things coming out of their gardens or things to sell, we have gone into October. Alright, so we just kind of play it by ear, but definitely through September.

Kelly Johnson And so if somebody wants to learn more, or kind of follow along, what would be the best place for them to look,

Sue DuBois We have a Facebook page: Wahoo Farmers Market and just send me a message there and I'll get back to them as quick as I can.

Kelly Johnson Okay, well, again, come on out, support local and be a part. It starts off tonight, 5:00 to 6:30. Saturday from 9:00 to 10 30. So again, it's kicking off summer is here officially soon. But we're doing that with a farmers market and let's go ahead and support local. So thank you everybody, for coming out and being a part of this, and thank you for putting this together.

Sue DuBois Thank you
